I am conducting a pole to identify candidate popularity. This is not exactly scientific, but should give at least some indication of who the forerunners are. Below you will find 1 post for each candidate. They are in the order in which their threads appeared on the forum when I first created the thread, with new ones added at the end.
GÇ£LikeGÇ¥ the candidates that you think would make a good CMP. DonGÇÖt GÇ£LikeGÇ¥ the candidates that you donGÇÖt think would make a good CMP.
I donGÇÖt support GÇ£LikeGÇ¥ farming, which is why I am not doing this on a main. I am using a no skill alt for this. I will biomass the character after the election.

Also, I am only listing the people that Announce their Candidacy on the CouncilGÇÖs Chamber forum, to avoid having to differentiate between General Discussion troll posts and real candidates. However, if I see a Candidacy post on the General Discussion forum that looks legit, I will post to suggest they make a CouncilGÇÖs Chamber post.
I have included links the CandidateGÇÖs CouncilGÇÖs Chamber threads. I will add in links to their General Discussion threads, and any other threads relevant to their campaign as I find them.

People will have a chance to endorse specific candidates before they can get on the ballot in the first place, so this thread is mostly moot anyways.
Please let it die. Harsh!
I have earned my likes the hard way, though 12 months of hard work on improving the New Player Experience. Anyone who has ever wandered into the Rookie Training Grounds forum will know where my Likes came from.
If I was goring to GÇ£Like farmGÇ¥ I would do it on my main, rather than a bunch of no skill, zero like alts, which I already said I would Biomass after the election.
This is as close to a poll as you can get with the limited functionality of this forum. It also allows people to remove their likes if they change their minds so it maintains a continuous tally as the campaign proceeds.
I am trying to get people interested and involved in this election, because it is important to the future of DUST and I want people to take it seriously. I want people to put some real thought into who they vote for. I want them to consider the candidateGÇÖs capabilities, rather than just voting based on who makes the funniest Troll posts. The post for each candidate includes a link to their platform and discussion threads. I will add information as we go.
The poll is to show which candidates people take seriously. It shows someone looking into this Election thing for the first time which Candidate Platforms to read first. As I look at the poll now, the voting seems to reflect a legitimate assessment of the candidate abilities. The strongest candidates are already getting the most votes.
The poll also gives people an opportunity to show their support in a central location where all the candidates can be compared.
I was planning on devoting considerable time and effort into covering this election to insure we get a large voter turnout and that people have the information they need to make an informed and intelligent decision at the ballot box. But if I am going to get beat down by members of CPM0, then that takes a lot of wind out of my sails. I really hope that you will reassess your sinical impression of what I am trying to do here, and I hope that the rest of CPM0 takes a more charitable view of my efforts than you have expressed here.

I am always interested in ideas about how to help undecided voters, particularly people who donGÇÖt normally browse the forums, quickly and easily access the information they need to make an informed decision.
In this thread I am providing links to candidate information and to the threads in which they lay out their election platform and answer questions. It is often hard to get a true assessment by reading their initial post, but if you look for posts where they are answering questions posed by other players, you will get a much better sense of the scope of their ideas and their understanding of the development challenges of the game.
Asking about what tangible contributions they have made in the past is a very good line of questioning, and can give them an opportunity to show their commitment to the game and to serving the DUST community.
I am aware of the potential for manipulating the pole results, but it does not appear to be a problem yet. Besides, such manipulation could easily backfire by stimulating opposition to someone perceived as less qualified who suddenly seems to be a threat, where they otherwise may have slipped in under the radar.
So far I have chosen to remain somewhat neutral. Not completely neutral mind you, as there are some candidates that I have more confidence in than others after reading their election material and looking into their backgrounds, but I try to give every candidate a fair shake. I am trying to facilitate each candidateGÇÖs efforts to present themselves.
If people want to create commentary threads with a separate post for each candidate, analysing their experience and giving an informed opinion on their qualifications for the position, I would consider including links to the commentary posts in each candidateGÇÖs section. This could help people consider the candidates from another informed perspective. I would have to be satisfied that the commentator was giving each candidate a fair shake without showing too much bias though before I would add links to their commentaries however.

I am trying to centralize access to Election 2014 information. If you run across anything that you think is important or relevant, it would be very helpful if you post a link to it here. If I agree, then I will include it in the appropriate place in my coverage.
Same goes for contact information and other relevant information that I should be posting. Post it in one of my threads to bring it to my attention, and I will copy it to the appropriate place.

Four of those guys don't even seem to be trying. If this is the best we can do maybe It should be delayed. Of the more voted for runners two were even were in favor of sponsorship from an external gamer site with perks thrown in.. WTH is that! I only just managed to pass my college course on politics and even I know that you don't take 'gifts' no matter how non bias the giver says he is and how he won't be asking for preferential treatment.
Supporting that type of project just shows a clear lack of judgement and actually changed my mind as to who i thought I'd vote for. (sorry Soraya and Jackel)
EDIT : My FIrst forum like for this! I am on my way boys! I think we can safely assume that more will run. I can think of at least one other person who I expect to run, who has not announced his candidacy here yet.
All of this is based on CCP saying that they plan to hold the election before Fan Fest. The election has not yet been officially launched with blogs and a dedicated sub forum. I expect many people are waiting for the official start to the election before announcing their candidacy.
The quality of the candidates who have announced so far does vary. There are definitely a few who have not put enough effort into this yet to be taken seriously.
As to the Sponsorship post, I believe that both Soraya and Jackel said that they would give away any sponsorship rewards they were given. So I donGÇÖt know how you can take that as support for sponsorship.
Although I think the sponsorship proposal was well meaning, I agree that it is probably inappropriate. The communication support part is fine though. It is probably best to think of Xion Shad as representing a media outlet. So it would be like a politician being interviewed on the news or a talk show.

I don't buy that for a second. Taking 'gifts' from en external or interested party even to then pass them on still has a candidate saying he will take payment, in AUR (real cash) no less for his position. These gifts are only passed to him due to his CPM status. Passing it on or not makes no difference. If you are CPM I will give you 'gifts'. This is candidates saying they will accept special treatment.
If a politician took $1000 from Big Oil then passed it to a charity what would the voting base think? If charity is the givers intention he should skip the middleman (CPM). No CPM member should expect or require anything to do the job. Election to the position is the reward.
If you were CPM, how would you prevent people from sending you a GAME code for an AUM pack in the in game mail?
In real life when someone in a position of responsibility receives and unsolicited envelop of money in the mail, they usually publically disclose having received it and give it to charity.

Also that's different. This is an open offer of gifts prior to an election. The correct response is "no thank you" Semantics.
They said they would "not keep" the rewards. You say they should "not take" the rewards. While I think you are right, there is not enough of a difference between those two positions to warrant painting those candidates in such a negative light.
This is starting to look like a deliberate attempt to discredit some of the front-running candidates. It looks like you are trying to artificially create a controversial issue so that when the candidate you support comes forward they will be able to respond in the GÇ£rightGÇ¥ manner and use this contrived controversy to separate themself from the other candidates.

I was impartial when I got here, but like everyone else I have been forming opinions based on what I read in the candidates posts. Just as after discussing this issue with you I now have a clearer idea as to the appropriate way for candidates to respond to sponsorship offers. That is, I basically agree with you that they should reject sponsorships if they are given that option.
I defended them because I felt you were being unduly hard on them, considering that your position and theirs did not appear to be too far apart. Of course I am Canadian and we do politics differently than you do in the US. It is a cultural thing.
I considered trying to remain completely neutral in covering the election, but finally decided that I could make a better contribution by providing informed analysis. My commentary thread will come out later in the week. In this thread I am trying to give all candidates equal treatment in the poll posts, by providing whatever contact information and supporting links that the candidate has made available.
I keep an open mind, so my opinion on each candidate's qualifications for the job will be subject to change based on how the election unfolds. I don't tend to become attached to my viewpoints.

It is important to note that Spartacus DustGÇÖs dramatic rise in the Poll was not accompanied by any increase in posted responses in his campaign thread, nor has there bean any apparent outpouring of support for him on The CouncilGÇÖs Chamber forum. While his campaign is certainly worthy of consideration, I would suggest taking this Poll result with a grain of salt.

I was not suggesting that you were doing anything wrong Spartacus. Most of the candidates have large groups of supporters. What is throwing the Poll off is that many of the supporters of the other candidates who have come to vote have also looked through the other candidate threads and voted for all the candidates they thought where good, while your supporters have just been voting for you and then leaving again.
I added the ExpertGÇÖs Poll to show results for a controlled group that has been considering all of the candidates' campaigns.
Ultimately it does not matter who gets the most votes since there will probably be around 6 winners, give or take. (We donGÇÖt know the size of the Council yet.)
Reaching out to different language groups is a good idea. Not only does it expand your support base, but it allows you to represent the needs of those other language groups.

Because several early CPM1 candidates have pulled out of the rase, and because some strong CPM1 candidates have been relegated to page two, due to joining the race a little later, I intend to recreate this thread in the new CPM Election forum when the Election is officially called and the new forum is added.
I will initially be adding candidates that have stated their intention to run in my sign-up thread, and then adding any other candidates as they officially add themselves to the list of candidates. The sign-up thread will just allow me to get the jump on things and get you posted up before you have even finished filling out the paperwork.
I hope that all those who have been following this election for so long will watch for this and place your GÇ£likesGÇ¥ on your favoured candidates so that you may lead the rest of the community by your example.
All polling posts will be posted by Random Solder 33. After the election I will sacrifice Random Solder 33 to appease the EVE gods, along with a few other Random Solders.
As for my Experts Poll and my Commentary threads, I will probably just petition to get them moved over.

Ok, I have run out of reserved posts for the popular poll. So no one else is allowed to declare their candidacy ... Just kidding. But in all seriousness, I will not be adding anyone else until the Election is officially called. When the Election Forum is created I will create a new Popular Poll thread and try to reserve more posts this time.
When I got into covering the election, I did not think it was going to be a 5 month commitment! Some of these CPM1 candidates have been running their campaigns longer than CPM0 expected to be in office when they were first appointed. It seems everything associated with the CPM election has taken longer than expected.
